SKI

A person should have wings to carry them where their dreams go, but sometimes a pair of skis makes a good substitute
— Hans Gmoser

For half of the year, deep snows blanket the high peaks, and skis are the best way to experience them. No matter whether it is powder, spring corn, ski mountaineering or traversing the high divides, backcountry skiing is a liberating and rewarding experience that I am happy to share with you.

I strive to find the best snow possible for my guests, but also seek to provide a safe and educational experience that includes avalanche education, mountain travel and training in backcountry ski skills.

Most of my winter is spent in the Sierra Nevada, but can offer low-ratio, custom ski programs to Canada, the Alps, South America and Antarctica. Trips are booked through a valid USFS/NPS commercial permit holder.

Day Touring

There really is no feeling quite like the weightlessness you experience while powder skiing. We climb to “earn our turns”, but the reward of having fresh tracks is so satisfying, you might just have to take another lap!

Mid winter is the best time to take advantage of storm snow and ample coverage in the lower elevations.

Ski Mountaineering

What could be better than climbing a peak and then skiing down it? The Sierra Nevada is home to many classic ski peaks with descents up to 6,000’, with terrain ranging from broad faces to narrow couloirs. With so many options to choose from, backcountry skiers of all abilities will find something to meet their comfort level.

Ski Traverses

The Sierra Nevada offers the best multi-day ski touring in the country, with classic traverses that span the entire range. The Sierra High Route and the Monarch Divide Tour are well-known, but only scratch the surface of what this area can offer. Overnight tours are best done between March and May depending on the snowpack.
