The Icefall Traverse
Hut to Hut Adventure
The Icefall Traverse. An iconic tour between high mountain huts in some of Canada’s finest and most impressive ski touring terrain. Experience solitude and wilderness, without the heavy pack.
Wild Country
Similar to the Haute Route, this tour takes us through incredible glaciated mountains, with the opportunity to ski some of the longest backcountry runs in Canada.
Big Days, Light packs
The trip begins with a helicopter ride to the Mons Hut, and from there we tour to the Lyell, Alexandra, Icefall and Rostrum Huts, with food and bedding provided at each stop on this 7 day adventure.
Itinerary:
April 17: Arrive to Golden, BC for pre-trip meeting.
April 18: Fly into the Mons Hut, and ski a number of objectives including Mons Peak or Mount Forbes.
April 19: Tour to Lyell Hut, the highest hut in Canada. Ski descents include the Icefall Canyon and Christian Peak
April 20: After skiing some of the closer peaks, we make our way down Wild West, the longest ski run in Canada at 7,000’. This takes us to the Alexandra Cabin where a home cooked meal and a relaxing sauna await.
April 21-22: A big climb up to the Portal or Shark’s Gate, followed by a nice ski down to the Icefall Lodge, the flagship hut on our tour. We get to spend two nights here, skiing objectives such as Mount Kemmel, or La Clyte.
April 23: We ski over Ice Pass to the Rostrum Cabin, perched at treeline with fantastic views to the Tempest Glacier.
April 24: Another day with massive relief, we ski up to the Tempest Glacier over Porcupine Saddle, and descend all the way to the valley floor where we are picked up by helicopter and returned to Golden.
