ICE
“Do nothing in haste; look well to each step; and from the beginning think what may be the end.”
Waterfall ice is an ever-changing, transitory medium. It is challenging and exciting, and it is one of the more unique facets of climbing. While once considered practice for objectives in the bigger mountains, it is a worthwhile pursuit on its own, whether you are interested in instruction on the shorter ice cliffs of the Eastern Sierra or aspire to climb longer multi-pitch ice routes.
Eastern Sierra, CA
While most do not think of California for its ice climbing, the canyons of the Eastern Sierra have some of the most reliable ice on the West Coast. From single pitch crags to multi-pitch outings, this area is a great place to learn how to swing a tool, as well as to develop the skills before heading to destination ice venues.
